- I have done it now for about 1.5 years and it is just fine with me. I am
- not in an apartment though. We rent a house. Being young, both in school,
- no "real" jobs, etc. it will be many moons before a house of our own is
- in our future but there was only 1, count it again folks, 1 apartment complex
- in the area (we really looked everywhere) that would take a dog OVER 15 pounds.
- What a stupid rule. We didn't like that place anyway and we really wanted to
- live in a house. We found several houses in our price range (rent per month)
- but none that allow pets. We finally gave up having a pet (we didn't have
- one yet) and we just looking for a nice house. The one we finally got into
- didn't say yes or no to pets just "we'll see after you've been here for a
- while". That was all we needed. After some bugging and pleading we had Beamer
- with us when we moved in the house! Anyway, the most important part was
- that the landlord knew that we had a dog. He knew what kind of dog it was and
- how big, roughly, it would get, he knew that we knew that all damage done by
- said dog would be out of our pocket to fix and he even agreed to fence in
- the yard (which hasn't been done yet but I am not going to push it :-)).
- So I lucked out. If the landlord doesn't like pets then don't plan on getting
- a deposit back from them. If they do and they completely understand what is
- going on then I think it can be done.
