  21. I have 3 cats and 3 dogs, so I'm obviously someone who likes both.
  22. I used to be terrified of dogs, though -- I don't know what I
  23. thought they'd do to me (lick me to death?), but they just made
  24. me nervous.  I was definitely a cat person.  My husband (who
  25. loves cats and dogs but will admit that he likes dogs a little
  26. more...) and I got our first dog in December 1991.  I had  
  27. decided that I might not be so afraid of a dog if we got
  28. a puppy, so we found a black Lab mix puppy (some nice people
  29. had found the litter and momma dog abandoned in the woods and
  30. were finding homes for the puppies).  It was hard to be afraid
  31. of a puppy who barely weighed more than the cats -- plus she
  32. was terrifed for the first day, and really looked pathetic.
  33. I decided to train her so that I would feel more in control,
  34. and it really did make a difference because she actually 
  35. listened to me!  Although the puppy biting (which we taught
  36. her not to do -- puppies have SHARP teeth!) and licking
  37. took a long time to learn to deal with, I have brought home
  38. 2 more dogs in the past year (these 2 were my fault, not
  39. my husband's!).  So I've been converted.

  41. But just because someone is a cat person doesn't mean they
  42. can't change with the right dog!  I'm proof!

  44. My cats don't feel quite the same way...  But thats a different
  45. topic...
