- Ah, I thought I'd get your attention.
-
- Several months ago I posted a query because by 1.5 year old calico was
- scratching the hell out of herself, mostly under the chin and around the
- neck area. She also had had for quite a few months swollen lymph glands in
- the same area.
-
- The vet. had here screened for a variety of of cat diseases ($85 for the
- battery of tests) and recommended vitamin C. I also posted a query here
- and folks kindly offered a number of suggestions, primarily feeding here
- more oils like lard.
-
- But the local pet store medicine doctor actually hit upon the cause: an
- allergy to corn-based cat food. I'd been feeding her IAMS canned food,
- which is a high-quality, no byproduct cat food. I switched to Lick Your
- Chops which contains wheat and brown rice but no corn. Over the past few
- weeks the scabs went away, the itching was much reduced and the lymph
- glands are back to normal -- that is, nearly undectable to the touch.
-
- Hope this info is useful to someone else. Thanks to all who previously
- responded.
