  12. Long ago I had a wonderful black and white longhair named Oberon.  He
  13. insisted on waking me up whenever he was hungry, which was usually between
  14. four and five in the morning.  First he would sit on my chest and purr.  If
  15. that didn't wake me up, then he would gently bat my face with his paws.
  16. Should I then be so foolhardy as to remain asleep, the claws would come out
  17. and he would pat my face again.  If I remained obstinate, he would insert
  18. one claw in one nostril and tug.  I *never* slept through that!

  20. I eventually decided, as others have, that true happiness can be found in
  21. the wanton indulgence of animals.  So I'd get up, put food out, and stagger
  22. back to bed ...
