  12. One of our two cats has a recurring problem with granulanoma (main
  13. sympton is raw sores on the chin and lips) and until yesterday the
  14. treatment was a half tablet of something called Ovarid every other day.
  15. Now, the great thing about Ovarid is that CATS LOVE IT.  As soon as she
  16. heard the rustle of the foil wrapping, Trin would rush over and beg for
  17. her pill, and then chomp and gulp till it was gone.  Hilary wanted some
  18. too and was always pissed off at not getting any.

  20. Those days are over.  The problem has gotten worse, and the vet has
  21. switched us to a new medication, little white pills to be given twice
  22. daily and a capsule of oil of evening primrose to be given once daily
  23. to help metabolize the pills (really).   The capsules are easy--break
  24. them into a small saucer of milk, and hey presto milk and oil are gone
  25. in a flash.  BUT...the pills are another matter.  No amount of disguise
  26. will trick Trin into eating them.  (Embed them in tuna, wait a minute,
  27. and you have a happy cat and an isolated very clean pill.)

  29. We have managed to get them down as a team, one person restraining and
  30. the other opening up Trin's mouth, putting the pill in the back of her
  31. throat and (gently) putting a finger at the back of her tongue to make
  32. her swallow.  However, this is a very agonizing process both for us and
  33. for Trin.  I'm worried that after a month of this, she'll put in for a
  34. transfer to a better home and/or I'll need skin grafts.

  36. So fellow cat people, IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO GIVE PILLS TO CATS?

  38. All advice will be very gratefully received and, as usual, I'll post
  39. a summary.
