- Sure, most colleges of veterinary medicine will require first-year students
- to obtain the pre-exposure vaccine. Most people in my class didnt have a
- bad reaction, except for a sore arm for awhile, just like with any other
- vaccine. I know they reccommend people who work with wildlife to get the
- vaccine, just in case they are exposed.
-
- Oh, another thing that caught me by surprise is that rabies is fairly
- common in FARM animals, like cows and horses. (!) Apparently most of the time
- the owner will think the animal is choking on something (due to paralysis of
- the laryngeal muscles), and then the owner can expose themselves to rabies
- by sticking their hand in the cow's mouth, trying to see if they can find
- whatever is choking the animal!!
