- For about the last 5 years, I've used a Humminbird ID 4 portable when I
- fish for spring chinook and trolling for trout in the summer. I've
- found that it is very effective at mapping the bottom and structure
- and somewhat effective at finding fish. I find that in deeper lakes
- where fish are suspended I can locate fish and generally have a higher
- success rate if I can get to the approximate depth where I have spotted
- fish on the finder. With salmon you may be seeing fish on the finder,
- (they are the long returns, about 6 to 10 pixels) but they may not be
- biters. It is frustrating because even with trout, not all fish will
- bite your lure, but youknow they are there. This leads to a lot of
- lure changing with me, but I can be accused of that anyway. Unless
- the action is really hot, I am always looking for just the right lure.
-
- There were a few spring chinook caught in the Willamette before the
- river blew out. People are busy dodging trees now with the recent warm
- weather.
