- I forgot to mention, there is one very important area in which IQ is
- important, and that is in sociological studies. IQ is really the only
- way to try to draw objective conclusions about the effect of various
- levels of nutrition, toxins, lead paint, etc., on large group averages.
- As you may know, group averages are much more accurate than individual
- scores - a very useful fact. In these kinds of studies, the
- philosophical discussion about whether IQ measures intelligence well or
- not so well is almost irrelevant. You can think of the IQ test as
- merely nothing more than a fairly wide variety of tasks which have been
- well standardized, and which definitely have something to do with the
- health of the brain. When the performance of a whole group suffers, you
- know something is up. Without the IQ test in this scenario, you're left
- with nothing but tea leaves.
