- I agree with this. When my parents moved their business across town (heck, only
- 10 miles for goodness sakes), their employees were up in arms compaining about
- the added travel distance, etc. Forget the fact that the cheaper rent would
- allow my folks to continue to employee the full staff v/s laying off some
- people. So, those who wanted to keep their jobs made the allowance and were
- willing to travel. Those who weren't willing are now unemployed and replaced by
- people who prefer to have a job.
-
- Moving across country is a bit different. However, it depends on how much it is
- worth to the employee.
-
- Last year I moved from TX to MA. I incurred all costs (and it was significant).
- But I felt that it was in the best interest of my family.
-
- In the case of a national organization, they have to do what is in the best
- interest of their members. Office help can ALWAYS be replaced. Sorry, nothing
- personal, just business. And when their expenses comes out of MY pocket, I want
- to be able to say something about it.
-
- Heck, large manufacturing companies move their entire facility cross country.
- What all does Mensa have anyway? Its an office for crying out loud. A lot of
- paper, some furniture and some computers. Heck, I have that in my home office
- and we moved 2400 miles last year. 8-)
