- 6. DESCRIPTION

- The World's Largest Concert (WLC) is a national celebration
- of music in our schools. Students with interest in all
- manner of making music i. e., bands, choirs, orchestras,
- etc., and their teachers practice selected numbers
- throughout the year. This broadcast connects these students
- from across the country in one grand, simultaneous sing-along
- performance of those musical numbers thus achieving "the
- world's largest concert. " WLC is presented annually as a
- national celebration during "Music In Our Schools Month".

- The 1993 event, "Make Time for Music" originates from the John F. Kennedy Center
- for the Performing Arts, and features the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony and
- the Montgomery Public Schools Honors Chorus in an all-student program. This
- year's host is Cynthia Gibb, from the television series, "Fame".

- MENC mails promotional pieces with program information and
- tips on how to obtain sheet music directly to schools each
- Fall.

- Broadcast Rights -- Unlimited broadcast rights (including
- educational cable, ITFS and closed circuit) for one year from
- date of first release (March of each year) available to
- public television stations and related education agencies at
- no cost.

- School Off-Air Record and Use Rights -- Free, unlimited
- school off-air record and use rights are available to
- schools.

- Videotape Duplication and Distribution Rights -- Tape
- duplication and distribution rights are available only to
- public television stations broadcasting the series and to
- state departments of education working in close cooperation
- with public television stations to provide or extend ITV
- services to schools.

- Audio-Visual/Non-Broadcast Rights -- A-V and non-broadcast
- rights are held by the Music Educators National Conference
- (MENC), 1902 Association Drive, Reston, VA, 22091,

- 8. PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS

- MENC mails glossy promotional pieces directly to schools in
- late fall or early winter. In addition, the program is highlighted in MENC's
- newsletter,"Soundpost." PBS/ESS distributes a promotional
- packet to stations for local customization and distribution. A special
- guide for schools is available from MENC for $2.00 shipping
