  15. Yes, this is one of those "what synth to buy?" messages disguised!  I know that
  16. the net gives good advice and maybe I'll get offers from people who want to sell
  17. their equipment. (anyone with a used Proteus+Orchestral?)

  19. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE:
  20.   -Good string sounds (such as samples in the K250 (Kurzweil)).
  21.   -Strange sounds, which I would define as haunting, ethereal or weird, rich
  22. percussion sounds. (this probably has to do with the programmability of the
  23. machine)
  24.   -At least 8 different timbres (drums counting as one)
  25.   -Polyphony: 16 notes sound ok, although more are also likely to be used.

  27. WHAT I LIKE OR DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE SY35 (for $750 incl.tax)
  28.   -The keyboard has a good feel, and I have no reason to believe that it won't
  29. be a good master controller (do you?).
  30.   -Has a drum voice that sounds ok to me.
  31.   -The polyphony is based on the number of elements (32) which means that if I 
  32. use 4-element voices instead of 2-element, I only get 8 notes polyphony.
  33.   -Won't accept new samples - only new vector data.
  34.   -Looks less programmable than a DX7II! (i.e. you have less control on the
  35. timbre ==> smaller variety of sounds possible).  Is this true?

  38. I would have loved to buy a Korg EX, 01/W or SY77 but I don't have the money.
  39. Perhaps in the future I will get a used Korg SR or a used M1r or something.  I
  40. suppose I could pay a little more than the $750 if I get a good deal on used
  41. equipment from the net.  Please e-mail me any suggestions/offers/advice.
