- If I remember coorectly A-440 came into use sometime in this century
- (as did strict reliance on evenly tempered tuning). Before then it
- varied from 380-480 depending on where you were. There is some evidence to
- suggest that it was usually around 400 in the 19th c and earlier, but
- existing organ pipes from the 17th and 18th centuries vary a great
- deal.
