- Last night I went to see First Call at the First Baptist Church
- in Georgetown, Texas. I have never listened much to this group,
- but loved the group Fireworks ( the group that Marty McCall was in
- before First Call). Does anyone know if any Fireworks stuff is
- available on CD?
-
- Anyway, I was kind of disappointed because the first thing I noticed
- is that there was going to be know live band or live instruments of
- any kind. It looked like they would be singing to a music track,
- which to me is a real bummer. Then, when they came out, I could
- swear that they were just lip synching, and not even singing at all.
- Now I was really bumming, I felt like leaving and complaining right
- there. But as the show progressed, I realized that they weren't lip
- synching, but just had amazing voices. The songs I enjoyed the
- most were the accapello songs with no music track. I knew Marty
- studied voice in college, and enjoyed his voice from Fireworks,
- but never had a change to listen to and enjoy the full range of his
- vocal talents. The two females with him were equally impressive, and
- they vocals blended well together. Their stage presence wasn't great,
- but was ok. The mostly older crowd found it hard to "get into" the
- concert...I really would have liked to have got up and danced in the
- aisles to a couple of tunes, but felt like the crowd was a little
- uptight. They played mostly songs from their latest album, I think
- it's called "Human Touch."
-
- Overall it was worth my $10, but I really wish they would have had
- live musicians to back them up.
