- A friend of mine saw him recently in Minneapolis with a kind of Tribute to
- Coltrane thing. Javon Jackson was in the band. He said Elvin was terrible,
- there was no balance between the drumming and other instrumentalists. He also
- said the mostly young band was very weak except for Jackson. The bassist, this
- friend said, "sucked!" Also, it cost 20 or 25 bucks, and Elvin played less
- than an hour. He was very disappointed. Elvin is coasting on his past
- laurels.
- There is a nice fairly recent recording on the Blackhawk label where he is
- "reunited" with McCoy Tyner, and Pharoah Sanders plays sax. Offhand, I don't
- recall the others on the LP. I bought it as a cut-out in October. If you see
- it you may want to pick it up.
