- I'll let you know at the end of March, but my Honda probably wouldn't
- have made it.
-
- Actually, it's just a convenience/safety thing, and is practical on
- all runs. There's no way to have a good time sitting by the side of the
- road waiting for your buddy to locate a master link, clutch cable, or just
- a tire patch kit when you're supposed to be out having fun.
-
- Speaking of which, I met a guy in a Hardees parking lot last August.
- Poor guy had ridden from Florida to make Sturgis, and was on his way back.
- He broke the clutch cable while pulling in for food in Denison, Iowa. Not
- a Harley dealer for 100 miles, and only a Honda shop that wouldn't open for
- two days. I gave him a pair of vice grips, we cut the cable housing, ran the
- cable through the hole in the lever, and used the vice grip to keep it from
- pulling back through. Five days later I got my vice grips in the mail,
- with a note of thanks. He had ridden on to Des Moines, got a new cable,
- and mailed mine back to me when he got home. Would you say his Sportster
- was unreliable because it broke a clutch cable?
