- I quote from 'The Mail on Sunday' dated 24/1/93
- "Motor manufacturer BMW is facing legal action from police after a
- series of high speed accidents involving traffic officers.
- Britain's biggest force, the Metropolitan Police, has issued a writ
- against the German firm claiming that its R80 motorcycles were unsafe
- and unsuitable for use as traffic bikes
- And last night solicitors for the Police Federation said it is likely
- to sue over five accidents involving another model, the K100."
-
- So it seems that these 'accidents' are being blamed on the motorbikes
- themselves. As for 'high speeds' who knows - the police around here
- consider 32 mph in a 30 zone to be 'high speed'.
-
- The paper also says " In the most serious [case], PC Stuart Hutchinson
- suffered horrific leg injuries after his bike wobbled at speed and
- went out of control on a bend of the A1 at Micklefield, neer Leeds."
-
- So it seems that Police motorcyclists go to fast and take too many
- risks.
