- I agree. I characterize my R100RT as follows:
-
- * Not too light, not too heavy (handles easily yet doesn't get blown off
- the road by 14 wheelers)
- * Cruises long distances in reasonable comfort, yet nimble enough to
- provide a real thrill on serious twisties
- * Handles well at freeway speed + and slow speed on dirt roads and worse
- (and all speeds in between)
- * Not exactly quick out of the blocks, but still provides the thrill of a
- high rate of acceleration (after shifting into second, that is!)
- * Can run all day at high speed on the superslab or putt along at idle
- in the sticks (with torque and acceleration to spare to get out of difficult
- spots)
- * Simple, proven design that's easy to maintain, yet refined where possible
- (nickasil cylinder walls, chrome rings, electronic ignition, single-swing
- arm, oil cooler, stainless steel mufflers) -- I'll probably get flamed for
- this one!
-
- You could probably take issue with these points and how I juxtaposed them
- (and someone probably will!). And there are certainly bikes that perform
- better in one or a few of the different conditions one might encounter over
- a lifetime of riding (and I wouldn't mind having some of them at different
- times -- like a Goldwing while I'm traveling the superslab across Nebraska
- -- or a BMW K bike while I'm negotiating Colorado's Front Range; the flip
- side is I wouldn't want a K while traveling across Nebraska or a Goldwing
- while in the Front Range). But are there any that perform as well or better
- in all of the various conditions? Certain HD models, perhaps?
