-
- Wow! That's sort of like saying: "91% of first class letters are delivered
- by the following day, even from southern California to northern
- California." Actually, I don't think that is fair since the distance
- from southern to northern California is greater.

- "The difference between Brits and Americans is that Americans think 200
- years is a long time, and Brits think 200 miles is a long distance."
-
- There are several reasons we do not have nationalized health care in
- the U.S.:
-
- 1) We individually elect legislators who have proven that they can screw
- us in the wallet, rather than allowing half our legislators to hold office
- just because their father had a dick that worked (House of Lords). Thus,
- our legislators have tons of PAC (Political Action Committee) money to
- earn from the hospital and AMA lobbies, and nothing to earn directly from
- a nationalized health care system. In other countries this would be known
- as "doing business", or perhaps "bribery". It works, as you can see.
-
- 2) If there were a nationalized health system, our esteemed AMA members
- might have to pass some minimal universal competency exam. We would then
- have exposed in bold relief the fact that even clumsy uncaring C-minus-
- average money-grubbing pedophiles can get a license under our current
- system. So to prevent this they lobby Congress (see "bribery" under
- (1) above).
-
- 3) Don't forget who paid for your defense for the last half-century,
- my British "even the Fauklands gave us a serious run for our money"
- friend. If it hadn't been for the massive percentage of our tax
- dollars that went to our defense industry, you'd be having black
- bread and rotting cabbage for dinner and professing to like it.
-
- 4) The most important reason, however, is that America is the Land of
- Milk and Honey, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. This is
- the place where the 49ers starv^H^H^H^H^Hstruck it rich. This is the
- country of the [fictitious] Horatio Alger, who inspired hundreds of
- thousands of young boys with the message that anyone, and I mean anyone,
- can work hard and become president, or a tycoon, or both. And thus,
- given this obvious over-abundance of opportunity for everyone [who
- happens to be white male and straight], if you cannot make enough money
- to afford health care or health insurance, then it is Your Damned Fault.
- The "reasoning" in America is "Fuck the poor; they are lazy." We want
- our presidents to come from the humblest roots, as long as they didn't
- (god forbid) *stay* poor.
-
- Obmoto: I got to ride a bike today for the second time in a *month*.
- And it is supposed to be clear again tomorrow! YES!
