- % This weekend while doing an MLK three day weekend ride to Vegas and
- % Death Valley, I discovered that the set of gloves that I have with the
- % nice pullout waterproofing covers are not very waterproof when
- Heh. Right. *Sure* they are...
-
- % subjected to two hours worth of heavy rain at freeway speeds. Instead
- % they turn into cold, sodden masses which take several days to dry. As
- % such, I'm looking for a way to keep my hands warm and dry on those
- % rides where it's determined to rain. (To preclude the flamers,
- I've heard of great luck with neoprene diver's gloves. Neoprene *is*
- waterproof (water enters a wetsuit at the seams and edges, not thru
- the neoprene) and it's also warm. The only disadvantage might be in
- its stiffness; I tried this idea once with a cheap pair of hunting
- gloves and my fingers just weren't bent the right way. Eventually, my
- muscles got tired of fighting the neoprene and my hands started to
- hurt. As mentioned, tho, I *have* heard great things; a buddy is a
- diver and has a *good* pair of gloves by which he swears up and down.
-
- The other reason I see for disliking these is that they won't provide
- a whole lot of protection if you meet Mr. Road. Dish gloves over
- leather gloves are indeed better in that respect, but it seems as
- though they would be more inconvenient... Although I can see that
- wearing dish gloves over either heavy winter gloves or light summer
- gloves would do the same thing, cost less, and give you the right
- temperature protection... Hmmm; maybe I'll just go and investigate
- dish gloves while you're investigating neoprene :-)
-
- % staying home or buying a Volvo or whatever isn't the correct answer.)
- Good for you! I have to keep telling my friends that...
