- Greetings bikers of the electronic underground,
-
- I saw one of those direct marketing programs on american TV (WPTZ 5 Plattsburg,
- NY) last saturday. It was about *The lubricant of the future* DURA-LUBE, it
- showed with much hype and live tests how it outperforms any engine oil (even
- the sanctified Mobil-1). Anybody else saw this ?? There must be a catch or,
- well..., it's very impressive!
-
- Basically they performed two test: one was a kind of lubrication benchmark
- and in the other they pulled out the oil drain plug on a dragster engine on
- a test bench.
-
- Test 1: lubrication benchmark
-
- A contact force was applied to a non-rotating roller about 0.5 in dia.
- on a rotating cylinder about 2 in dia with it's axis perpendicular to
- the roller's one (very small contact area).
- Part 1: constant force (for each lubricant), they applied a coat of
- the said lubricant to the rotating cylinder, start the thing and
- mesure the time before a certain friction level was obtained.
- Winner: Dura-lube of course and by a lot.(Castrol GTX, Mobil-1,
- Penzoil, slick 50 gave about the same readings)
- Part 2: this time they used a fish weighting scale and asked
- participants to apply the force on the roller. Same results.
- They also showed the rollers afterward: they all showed big gouges
- except...you got it!
-
- Test 2: Engine test bench
-
- That was a big show, here it is. They used a big chevy something
- on a computerized dynamometer test bench which displayed all the
- usefull info: oil pressure, oil temp, rpm, hp,... Then they drained
- the oil (which was ... arg! never mind) while it was idling: the oil
- pressure curve was going down, down. They pushed the beast to 522 Hp:
- the guys working there were pulling their hair loose, one even ran
- out of the building to avoid receiving parts of an exploding dragster
- engine! But, but it didn't happen (of course!), it didin't sized,
- coolant temp was in normal range, etc, etc...
-
- Furthermore they garantee that there is no solid (like slick 50 has) and can
- be used in any engine as oil. What gives? Is this all bullshit or what ?
- 'cos if the test are anywere close to what they showed I'm impressed!
- Long term durability (despite the name) was not tested.
-
- So what do you think geek bikers of the planet earth ?
-
- Ride cool (or cold)

- ObMoto: Pulled out the oil pan on the ol' ninja 'cos one of the oil plug hole
- was striped. Saved most of the gasket short of one inch section that
- sticked to the other face. Do you think I can save this one with the
- addition of some heat-resistant silicon gasket in a tube? Thanks
