-
- I have an aftermarket generic trunk from Hap Jones on my Maxim
- and love it. It doesn't attach to the tubular bars, though, it
- simply has four long flat 1"-wide pre-drilled bars -- two go
- inside the trunk and the others go under the luggage rack
- slats, and you just drill through the bottom of the trunk and
- bolt 'er on. Nice rubber washers so there is no leakage, and
- nice rubber gasket at the top for the same reason.
-
- The only part of the install that was in any way problematic
- was that the bars were longer than the rear of my luggage rack
- was wide, but a judicious hacksaw fixed that in about a minute.
-
- This trunk will carry a *LOT* of beer!
-
- One caveat: I stupidly took the trunk out to my bike, set it on
- the luggage rack, and said, "Yeah, it'll fit," and bought it.
- When I got home I realized that it would indeed fit, but that
- to place it far enough forward to carry significant weight *and*
- to open the lid completely I would have to remove my aftermarket
- backrest. Testing with the wifely unit proved that this was not
- as much of a problem as I had feared due to the aftermarket
- King&Queen seat on the Maxim, so I stuck with it, but if I had
- thought it out better up front I would have gotten the trunk
- with the built-in backrest (no extra $$$).
-
- Another advantage of the trunk is that I can Velcro my garage
- door opener to it, so when I'm coming up the street I just
- reach back and slap it with my clutch hand -- quite handy.
