When I bought my '92 GS, I wanted to add some, but not all, of the PD equipment. Electrically, that meant heated grips. Before my 600 mile service, I installed a Bosch fog light on the left side crash bar (this was less for foggy riding
and more for the conspicuity of having a light in an odd position for oncoming
traffic to notice). I had a relay and wanted to use the other switch position
in the instrument cluster, so I asked the mechanic to install it during the
service. While lounging around the showroom I decided to buy and electric vest.
When I mentioned this to the mechanic, he volunteered to put a higher rated
voltage regulator on as a "warranty" item. He said I would soon complain that
the battery didn't stay charged and he might as well replace it now as later.
I have the part number, as best I could decipher it from the service record. It
is 123212441737. It would have made more sense to me to install a higher output
alternator but so far, my battery has stayed charged with the setup I have.
