- True. A few times I've stepped into situations where there was a
- potential for violence and tried to defuse it. I had the confidence
- that, should I be unsuccessful, I could still defend myself.

- All too often, people get away with hurting others because
- bystanders don't want to get involved at all. No one is willing
- to say, "Put the knife down and let's talk about this." Because
- martial artists have to plan for such situations, and because we
- have the skills to deal with the situation if things get rough, I
- think we are more likely to take action.
