- I just measures my jo and it is only 50"=4.2 feet. I think (if I remember
- correctly) that the idea was that it should be a bit longer than the
- katana which it was designed to be used against and since a bokto (bokken)
- is about 40" that fits. (I havent got a katana to compare with)

- I vaguely recall reading that the length of the jo should be such that
- it comfortably fits under your armpit while standing. I'm not familiar
- enough with jo technique (my staff training is with bo) to know whether
- there are technical reasons for this length. I do note, however,
- that this length would allow it to be used as an impromptu crutch
- after a particlarly grueling workout :-)
