  20. I believe the European quarterstaff is rather longer than the jo.  If
  21. this is so, there are a number of jo techniques (most particularly 
  22. reverses) that would be impossible to do with a quarterstaff.  I 
  23. suppose a bo would be a better analog, but I have no idea if bo
  24. and quarterstaff techniques are at all similar.
