  12. This maybe funny (or maybe not, depending on whether or not you've 
  13. ever been in this situation...).

  15. I was in the process of going through a real nasty divorce and was
  16. getting a lot of phone calls from my ex's three attorneys and the
  17. private eye that followed me around for 3-4 months.
  18.  
  19. Finally, I had a wild idea (after a night of lotsa heavy drinking
  20. and inhalation of illegal substances). I recorded a busy signal on
  21. my answering machine (the outgoing message was 90 seconds...so I
  22. called myself and recorded 90 seconds of the busy signal).

  24. I then set the machine to pick up on the first ring.  I only told 
  25. those who I wanted to talk to about my little setup.  
  26.  
  27. At work I had the site receptionist take messages, so I was covered
  28. there.  This worked for about 3-4 weeks and then my attorney told 
  29. me that he had been taking a lot of messages for me because of my
  30. little stunt (but he thought it was great!).  Shortly thereafter 
  31. the phone company called (my wonderful ex called to see if my phone
  32. was off the hook, the phone company said that the connection was 
  33. fine, they called and got a busy signal then sent a repairman over 
  34. to find out what the heck was going on....

  36. To make a long story short, I was finally handed a court order (by
  37. two San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies) to make my telephone work
  38. again and I had to reset everything back to normal.  The legal and
  39. financial harassment started up again but it finally all ended....

  41. I had about a month of peace and quiet, it was worth it (not to 
  42. mention the pleasure I got out of watching all of these people try
  43. to figure out what the hell was going on...).
