  22. A man named Montagu C. Butler, in writing a textbook for Esperanto classes
  23. ("Step by Step in Esperanto"), concocted quite a few of these to liven up
  24. his lessons; being one of those Esperantists who became interested in the 
  25. language because they are language addicts to begin with, Butler was really
  26. good at making such sayings up.  Also, his versions usually rhymed.

  28. Some of these which stick in memory are:

  30.      The earliest winged songster soonest sees,
  31.      And quickest captivates, th' annelides.

  33.      Who counts the yet unfractured shells of bipeds gallinaceous
  34.      Is apt to find his calcuations woefully fallacious!

  36.      Bear not to glutted cellars on the Tyne
  37.      The carbonaceous products of the mine.
  38.           (British readers of this group may need to clue the Americans
  39.            on this one.)

  41.      Teach not thy parent's mother to extract
  42.        The embryo juices of an egg by suction;
  43.      That good old woman can the feat enact
  44.        Quite irrespective of your kind instruction!

  46. And he provided a variation on the first of these examples, which is not exactly

  48. a sesquipedalian version but rather a charming inversion, which I like so well
  49. I was using it in my .sig a while back:

  51.      The early worm goes forth with zeal
  52.        To give the hungry birds a meal.
  53.      His brother has no such intention,
  54.        And lives to draw his old-age pension.
