-
- Quite a number of people consider almost any kind of automatic,
- unwanted communication to be rude, especially when they see the
- communication as trivial and uninteresting.
-
- If I may make a digression away from John's article, I think it's
- worth noting that just as different people will disagree on what is
- rude, different people will disagree on what is offensive. This is
- why most people require a behavior to be "persistent" before they
- consider it harassment, except in obvious cases--it's difficult to
- justify condemning people for behavior that they did not know was
- offensive. For this reason, I find the assertion implausible that
- "persistence can be across space as well as time" in this case; the
- person still had no opportunity to find that his behavior was
- offensive during his mass-mailing, and so "persistence across space"
- is not sufficient.
-
- Finally, the recent article insinuating that perhaps Jeff (Cynbe) is a
- "tyrant" is ludicrous. There are many reasons for not wishing to
- consume more bandwidth than is necessary. I suspect that Mr. Morrill
- did not bother to, say, log into Qwest and read news before posting
- that article.
