- I'm not sure I agree with this. There is no reason to assume that partner is
- not aware of what there bids mean. He may have (perhaps without you
- noticing or when he/she sat down at the table) looked at there conv. card
- and is aware of what the opponents are playing. There is no reason to assume
- otherwise and _certainly_ no reason to assign a penalty simply because
- partner did not invoke an _option_ of his to look at the opponents card.
- In point of fact, the way the problem was stated, he _could_ have looked at
- the card and then made his call. I don't see a problem here at all.

- Incidentally, the original problem is a tough one, one I have encountered
- myself. I, fortunately, didn't have the problem of the opponents refusing
- to tell me what their bids meant so I could explain mine. I really don't
- have a solution for you, just muddle through as best you can.
