  14. I had an exceptionally scarey experience with Belle last weekend and now
  15. that my blood-pressure is back to normal, I started coming up with some
  16. not-too-pleasant questions which I'm sure you guys can answer...

  18. I was leading Belle across a 2-lane highway, following another horse. The
  19. place where I have to cross is at the top of a hill, so the oncoming cars
  20. don't have alot of time to see horses on the shoulder. We had gotten across
  21. ok and I heard a car coming up behind us so I was talking to Belle to keep
  22. her calm. I know she heard the car, but as it got closer she lost it and
  23. spun around in front of me and into the path of the car. The car swerved to
  24. miss her and she slipped on the asphalt, falling onto her side.

  26. We got ourselves back together and down the driveway in one piece. She was
  27. (as usual) much calmer about the whole thing than me, after I stopped 
  28. shaking I checked her out but she only had a couple of scrapes on her legs
  29. where she fell.

  31. My question - which surfaced MUCH later - was, if god-forbid, knock on wood,
  32. the car had hit her, how does the liability work? I live in Colorado, and
  33. I know laws are different all over but I wanted a general idea. I have no
  34. insurance on Belle, just the normal car-house insurance. Belle is boarded out
  35. so my homeowner's insurance wouldn't cover anything... When a car hits a deer
  36. there's no real liability, so how does it work with horses? I'd like the 
  37. answer to include things like Belle stomping on a guest....etc....
