- I spent most of my life (as well as most of my riding life) in the southwest
- (Texas and Southern California) so I was in for a shock when I moved to
- Colorado. Like another poster recommended, I love my silk long underwear,
- since it is not bulky under English riding breeches and adds a lot of warmth.
- I got them from Eddie Bauer. I also bought a pair of Thinsulate gloves,
- which were worth the $30, though they are a little short (i.e. stop right at
- my wrist, and let the cold in over the top at times). Finally, I also do the
- layered look... short thin socks under thin (but warm) wool socks under my
- boots... silk top, cotton shirt, wool sweater, and a thigh length ski jacket
- over the top (which I remove if I am doing streneous riding, such as a jumping
- lesson.. the other layers are enough...)
-
- Hope that's helpful! It doesn't get *that* cold in Colorado (as say, Minnssota)
- but we've had some chilly ones recently... brr!

- P.S. As a side question, on a cold day (20F and below) or even on warmer days
- (32-20F), how dry is dry for putting an unclipped, outdoor horse back outdoors.
- (We ride in an indoor area at one of the farms I ride at). Doe this mean NO
- dampness at all, a slight dampness (when touched with my cheek) or is more
- fine? I have been walking and blanketing Purty until he is pretty dry, though
- after 45 mins he is still slightly damp under his elbows when touched with my
- face (I have my gloves on!) What do y'all think? He is not clipped and it
- takes a very long time for him to be fully dry, but I do not want to make him
- sick. Ah, this is one thing I never had to worry about in Texas!
