- Hello,
- My name is Liz Trojan. I would classify myself as
- a lurker in this news group. I rarely post but I read nearly
- every day. I have a 9 year old Thoroughbred gelding off the
- track that's about 16.2 hands and a bay. I show him under the
- name Orpheus. I have had him since he was four. Several years
- back I was buying and selling thoroughbreds off the track. I
- bought them cheap at the auction retrained them and then resold
- them. There was very little money in it. I just enjoyed working
- with horses and I hated to see these lovely horses going to the
- meat plant. I was very selective about which horses I choose to
- retrain. People are always amazed when I tell them I got my horse
- at the auction bidding against the meat man. I paid meat price
- for him. My primary interest is in Dressage. We are now going
- 1st level. I'm not very brave about trailering so I mainly go to
- dressage shows in the vicinity of Portland, Oregon where I live.
- I also do a clinic once a month and in the summer I enjoy going
- out trail riding. Doing dressage with a thoroughbred is a challenge.
- My horse is not high strung but keeping him consistently round
- and to the bit is not something he is always keen to do. My
- friends with warmbloods are often concerned about how to get
- their horses more energized. I on the otherhand am always trying
- to figure out how to get my horse to relax. One of my goals this
- summer is to show for Carol Lavell. She will be judging one of the
- local Dressage shows this summer. What fun to meet her in person!
- My job has nothing to do with horses. I am a software engineer
- with a small company that produces software models for simulation.
- I'm 35. It's been a real treat to read everyone elses bio's.
-
- By the way did anyone see the show in TV about horses and insurance
- fraud? I did. It was predictably gorey and very upsetting. They
- were quite explicit in their descriptions of how the horses were
- killed including showing photos of the animals after they had died.
- The point was made that killing animals is not a felony so most
- of the people involved go unpunished. Where are the animal rights
- activists when you need them?
