- Okay, I'm not a Paint or Pinto owner, but... a Paint is a horse (not pony)
- registered with the APHA, ans yes, usually these horses must be the progeny of
- other registered Paint horses and/or an APHA approved mix.
-
- Pinto is a generic term for any colored horse or pony.
-
- Now, some color guides:
-
- Overo: Refers to a horse which is predominantly the darker of the two colors on
- the horse (e.g. brown ,with white spots).
-
- Tobiano: Refers to a horse which is predominantly the lighter color (e.g., a
- mostly white/grey horse with dark spots0.
-
- Piebald: Means that the darker color is black.
-
- Skewbald: Means that the darker color is brown.
-
- Example: A White horse with brown spots would be referred to as a skewbald
- tobiano.
-
- Kind of twisted terminology.
-
- Be careful what you call a Paint or Pinto... Most Paint owners get very offended
- if you call their horse a "pinto"....
