Anybody Know anything about woolen trade cloth, with white selvage edge? I suppose it was done in England until 1900? it is woolen blanket like cloth, usually blue or red but with white selvage edge. I suppose it was dyed as a fabric and edges were sewn with heavy fabric and wax to prevend edges from dye stuff. After dyeing heavy fabric was removed and we had dyed fabric with uneven undyed edges.
Trade cloth was very popular fabric among North American Plains Indians during 1800-1900.
Who manufactured this fabric? To whom? Where was it originally used? Why white undyed edges? How was it made? Which colors? What else? Is it still manufactured?
