- The #1 cause of low S.G. readings in cases where the wort is mixed with
- water is imsufficient mixing. You will have to experiment with different
- ways of mixing up the water and wort until you have a method that gives you
- a true sample. I have had it happen to me and have seen it time and time
- again with other new brewers, especially when switching from a bucket to a
- carboy.

- One method that works well is to mix everything in a bucket, using a
- sanitized spoon or somesuch to mix well. Take a sample, then transfer to
- your carboy.
