- 21 years ago (I was 10) I found an 1826 large cent while waiting for the
- school bus. I just kicked up a pile of leaves and there it was..in the
- woods in Rhode Island. It was remarkably sharp in it's detail, Extra Fine
- condition except that its color was black I assum from being outside and
- under the leaves so many many years.
-
- I have two questions, does anyone know the value of this today? I found
- a Coin World magazine at the library but it only listed the value of a coin
- up to VF condition (at least for these early lg cents). Second, I
- decided back then to *not* put the coin through some kind of cleaning.
- At the time the wisdom was that that would do more harm to the coin than
- improve its value. Is this the generally held view today?
