  11. 21 years ago (I was 10) I found an 1826 large cent while waiting for the
  12. school bus.  I just kicked up a pile of leaves and there it was..in the
  13. woods in Rhode Island.  It was remarkably sharp in it's detail, Extra Fine
  14. condition except that its color was black I assum from being outside and
  15. under the leaves so many many years.

  17. I have two questions, does anyone know the value of this today?  I found
  18. a Coin World magazine at the library but it only listed the value of a coin
  19. up to VF condition (at least for these early lg cents).  Second, I 
  20. decided back then to *not* put the coin through some kind of cleaning.
  21. At the time the wisdom was that that would do more harm to the coin than
  22. improve its value.  Is this the generally held view today?
