I used to use WD-40 to clean and oil my chain, until one of the bike mechanics told me that it was a bad idea. The problem being that WD-40 is a solvent and will remove the lubricant from within the joints of the chain. So now I only use it to clean the chain prior to lubricating with syn-lube.
