- Actually, the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area/Grayson
- Highlands State Park, right here in Virginia, is very enjoyable. No
- lodge that I know of, but the State Park has an established campground
- if you want, car camp (or *shudder* RV) and hike across the high
- balds and ridges, as well as forests from streambed hardwoods up to
- spruce peaks. The rhodendenron/laurel display from end of May to end
- of June is spectacular. Also, many of the National Forests, esp. out
- West have access roads allowing a high-clearance vehicle or 4X4 to
- drive in to wonderful camp spots or jump-off points for hiking.
