  11. I have heard a good deal about the scenic wonders of Hawaii
  12. But I have heard very nothing about the possibilities
  13. of backpacking there. Can anyone answer some of these questions
  14. for me:

  16. 1. Are there sufficiently long trails to warrant a backpacking trip
  17.    (as opposed to trails suitable for day hikes)?
  18.  
  19. 2. Is backpacking with a tent permitted? sensible? possible? practical?
  20.  
  21. 3. Are there possibilities for hotel to hotel or hostel to hostel or
  22.    B&B to B&B backpacking trips?
  23.  
  24. 4. Are there any special factors that even an experienced backpacker
  25.    would need to know about?  I have in mind dangerous mammals, dangerous
  26.    reptiles or amphibians, insects, water, campsites.

  28. 5. Is transportation to trailheads a. easy by public transportation?
  29.    b. barely possible by public transportation? c. possible only by
  30.    private car?
