  20. Bentley = VW - Probably the best when it comes to pure technical
  21. advice, etc on Volkswagen products. Its the "official" VW
  22. version as to how things are done.

  24. Haynes - Generally good, they base their manuals on a strip down
  25. and rebuild of the car covered in the manual. Major problem is
  26. the Haynes for the GTI/Golf also covers Rabbit/Jetta, etc from
  27. 1975 thru the Golf/Jetta 1990, which means you may have to
  28. wade through extraneous stuff, and may lack certain details
  29. found in Bentley.

  31. Idiot Book for Watercooled - eventhough not directly on point 
  32. for Golf/Jetta, many procedures for Rabbit, etc work on
  33. later cars (providing of course you have a "back up"
  34. manual which covers Golf/Jetta)

  36. Chilton Manual - Now that Sears is going out of the Catalogue
  37. business, here is the ideal replacement for the paper which
  38. serves the "little house behind the big house". Manuals are
  39. crap, illustrations within the contents may be for other
  40. cars, makes, etc. STAY AWAY....STAY AWAY....

  42. One can NEVER have too many manuals. I have found that by
  43. doing a little research, you can find a "better" way
  44. of doing a particular job by looking thru a couple of
  45. manuals before doing the repair. (ie: the diagrams for
  46. constructing the clutch centering tool in the Idiot
  47. book vs. the recomendation for using VW tool #----
  48. in the Bentley book).
