- : Well, Travis, count yourself lucky...at least you can use the exhaust heat
- : if you hafta. I am the frostbitten owner of a '72 Van (the first year for
- : the 1700 engine). Even if I had the $400 to replace the rusted out heater
- : boxes, I hear it's still dubious that I'd be getting much heat up front.
-
- I have a 1970 van with heater boxes in pretty good condition and I was
- getting pretty good warm air up front and very hot air from under the rear
- seat. It did no good, however, since the door molding allowed icy breezes
- to blow through my hair and into my shoes. Replacement rubber is over
- $200 a door. Then, someone hear mentioned using weather stripping from
- the hardware store. I tried it (3/8" thick, 1/4" wide, 10' long = $2.50)
- and used 8 rolls to do both cab doors and sliding door. The results
- were great (although I now have to slam the doors to get them closed)
- So, my suggestion is get the boxes and some weatherstripping, apply
- carefully (surfaces must be totally clean) and be warm, at least on the
- highway where there's enough airflow.
-
- Just my suggestion
