- In an article in VW& porsche ( few years ago) they mentioned the GTi
- 16V has the same low end power curve of the 8v but the high end is much
- more powerful and peaky. This is why the 16V seems to have less low end
- power. For some reason, my friends GTi 16v didn't seem to have as much low
- end torgue as my 8v. But , in general, neither has much low end power. To
- move the GTi briskly you'd have to shift at about 4k. peak torque comes in
- at 3.5k in the 8v (don't know where it is in the 16v) . That's rather high.
- Plus the tranny is set up to use the upper rpm. GTi's are definately
- happiest on the far side of the tach.

- Might be a problem or perhaps you just have to get more use to
- the car. Either way, I can usually get the car moving at about 1.5-2k in my
- car. my friends 16v required more along the lines of 2.5k. Once I got use
- to it
- I could get it rolling from about 2k. 3-4 K seems a little high
