  21.     In an article in VW& porsche ( few years ago) they mentioned the GTi
  22. 16V has the same low end power curve of the 8v but the high end is much
  23. more powerful and peaky. This is why the 16V seems to have less low end
  24. power. For some reason, my friends GTi 16v didn't seem to have as much low
  25. end torgue as my 8v. But , in general, neither has much low end power. To
  26. move the GTi briskly you'd have to shift at about 4k. peak torque comes in
  27. at 3.5k in the 8v (don't know where it is in the 16v) . That's rather high.
  28. Plus the tranny is set up to use the upper rpm. GTi's are definately
  29. happiest on the far side of the tach.

  40. the car. Either way, I can usually get the car moving at about 1.5-2k in my
  41. car. my friends  16v required more along the lines of 2.5k. Once I got use
  42. to it 
  43. I could get it rolling from about 2k. 3-4 K seems a little high
