  27. I can't speak for VW, but most modern cars with automatics have electronic
  28. transmission controls.  Most ECT's have a memory that adapts them to driving
  29. patterns.  I think Mercedes even has it tied into the seat/mirror memory, so
  30. it can remember different drivers.  To answer your question, the S/E switch
  31. indicates an ECT, so I would not be in the least surprised if it in fact had
  32. this memory.
