- -> Oil burning and leakage around valve covers and the rear
- -> main seal are a problem with the 2.8. If this motor has
- -> 99K and isn't burning oil I'll eat my keyboard.
-
- I've had half a dozen Capris with the 2.6 and 2.8 and not only have
- never had a leak, I've never even heard of anyone who had a leak. The
- V6 uses a one-piece rear main seal that works quite well. The heads
- have a very high valve cover rail and won't leak unless some goober
- bends them all to hell when setting the valves.
-
- Ford's QC on the Ranger motors may be poorer than the German-built
- Capris, though. The Capris tend to soldier on until the valvetrain
- packs it in (because Americans WON'T adjust solid lifter valvetrains)
- or the cam gear goes. Of course I once saw one with 5 out of 6 pistons
- burned right through the tops when the guy's fuel solenoid didn't open
- and his nitrous solenoid did...
