- For years, when lubing the U-joints on my vehicles, I've pumped
- grease in until I get clean grease flowing out from around all four
- dust seals. I've never had any problem with ruptured seals.
- But, the other day, I was browsing through an auto mechanics
- book and it said to only pump in grease until the seal(s)
- swell(s) a little.
-
- I'm not convinced I'm damaging the seal my way. I'm also not
- convinced the other way will lube the U-joint thoroughly.
-
- So, what is the recommended procedure?
-
- 1) Pump in grease until clean grease flows from around all four
- dust seals.
-
- 2) Pump in just a little grease, until you see the seal(s) swell.
