- HI:
-
- I have a 1979 Ford F-250 4X4 that had a 429 in it when I got it, transplanted
- form a '68 Thunderbird. The engine was tired when I bought the truck, so I had it
- rebuilt, and it runs fine, lots of power.
-
- Here is the problem. The oil pan on this engine was not designed to clear the
- differential housing on the front axle (a Dana 44, offset to the Driver's side).
- The pan already has a dent in it form the diff from where someone must have
- hit something pretty hard while 4-Wheeling.
-
- In effect, the pan now has a relief, I guess, but I don't like it this way. Is
- there a different pan used in Ford trucks with the same family of engine (say, a
- 460) which takes this clearance problem into account. If so, what would I need to
- effect the change (other than the pan, obviously).
-
- And is it doing my engine any damage to have this in the pan?
-
- While we're at it, how 'bout an opinion. The transplanter used the Duraspark
- ignition (I guess from the truck) on this engine. Is this okay, or should I be
- thinking of converting to a points setup?
-
- And does anybody know where I might get original type air cleaner, carb, etc for
- this motor?
-
- Thanks for your help.
