- Years ago when Mark Donahue died after crashing during practice for the
- Austrian Grand Prix (early 70's?) it was determined that his crash was
- caused by a flawed tire. His wife sued Goodyear (the maker of the tire),
- Bell (the maker of his helmet - he died of a head injury) and god knows
- who else! I think that the request was for $12 million.
-
- Mark had explicitly stated, within a few weeks of the crash, that racing
- was a dangerous sport, and that if he were to be killed, even because of
- equipment failure, that no one else was to blame. He knew the risks that
- he was taking.
-
- I believe (others with more knowledge or better memories might correct me
- if I am wrong) that the defendants in the suit settled out of court and
- that the sum of the payment was not disclosed.
-
- Now, when the statements of the man who was killed were so explicit,
- the dangers so obvious and the suit was still entertained, do you not
- think that this girl's parents will be very successful in their endeavors?
