  21.  The English magazine Jaguar Quarterly is a very nice, high gloss rag
  22.  with hundreds of ads for Jaguar spares.  At $40/year, it's a bit
  23.  pricey, but it's one of those cases where you get what you pay for.

  40.  If you are not already a member, you should consider joining the
  41.  british-cars e-mail list.  There's 10-15 Jaguar owners on the the
  42.  british-cars list (and about 200 wanna-be's :-).  Not quite enough to
  43.  start a separate e-mail list yet, but the time will come.  There
  44.  usually isn't that much Jaguar content, but there's always lots of MG
  45.  and A-H traffic.  I've included the welcome to british-cars file below.

  96.   - The Scions of Lucas [SOL] is an international network of british
  97.     cars enthusiasts dedicated to enjoying and maintaining the breed.
  98.     Linked globally in real-time via the international computer-based
  99.     electronic mail (e-mail) networks, we discuss various topics such
  100.     as the daily dramas of owning the things, car maintenance and
  101.     restoration and such.  Together, we provide an informal support
  102.     system which ranges from sharing technical information and locating
  103.     spare parts or even whole cars to swapping tales of adventure and
  104.     daring-do.

  106.   - The scope of this group is simple, discussion is open to any
  107.     subject involving british cars.  Due to their large US import
  108.     volume, much of the discussion tends to center around the
  109.     Austin-Healey, MG and Triumph sport convertibles.  Currently about
  110.     200 folks are on the list, not all of them owning British cars,
  111.     some just wanting to get info before they make the plunge.

  113.   - You will find that british-cars is different from most lists because:
  114.     1.  Almost everyone is having or has had serious hands-on experience
  115.         with Little British Cars.  Referred to as LBC's.
  116.     2.  The people who do not fall into category 1 above are genuinely

  136. How busy is this list?

  138.   - The list averages about 20 to 30 messages per day, with a monthly
  139.     total of about 1-2 megabytes of stuff flowing forth.  If the daily
  140.     number of messages is too much, you can request to be put on the
  141.     digest, which is simply all the day's mail concatenated into one
  142.     long message and sent out late at night.

  144. How do I join?

  146.   - Access to british-cars mailing list requires a computer or terminal,
  147.     a modem, and access to one of the wide area computer networks such
  148.     as Internet, Arpanet, WELL, UUCP, Compuserve etc.  If you have
  149.     received this message via e-mail, you already have access.

  151.   - Send e-mail to british-cars-request@autox.team.net to subscribe (use 
  152.     hoosier.utah.edu if your mailer can't handle MX records).  British
  153.     cars e-mail is carried over the computer network known as Internet.
  154.     Internet links many of the major universities, government labs and
  155.     commercial computer/communication institutions internationally.

  157.  -- When you join the british-cars list, you are encouraged to introduce
  158.     yourself and tell us a bit more about yourself and your car.  For
  159.     example, tell us about your LBC (Little|Leaking|Large British
  160.     Car|Convertible|Coupe) and any adventures that you've had finding,
  161.     buying or owning it.  Your LBC-related tales of treasures found,
  162.     repairs, racing, rallying and any general misadventure are always
  163.     welcome.

  165.   - There is an archive of british-cars stuff available via anonymous
  166.     FTP from hoosier.utah.edu in the pub/sol directory.  Various GIFs,
  167.     info files, lists of members and their cars and the beginnings of
  168.     a collection of buyers guides to various LBC's can be found there.

  170.   - Low-volume sublists exist for certain specialties and areas such as 
  171.     TR-8s, Land-Rovers, colorado.front.range and sf.bay.area.

  173. Are there any rules?
  174.  
  175.   - There are no formal rules.  However, be aware that your postings to
  176.     this list go out to a large number of professionals and upper-level
  177.     students internationally whose time is very valuable.  The quality
  178.     of this network can only be maintained by the efforts and personal
  179.     integrity of the individual members.  Over the years, this has
  180.     resulted in some rather high standards being set and you are
  181.     strongly encouraged to THINK before you write.  When you do post 
  182.     articles, please make an concerted effort to KEEP THE VOLUME LOW
  183.     AND THE QUALITY HIGH.

  185.   - When replying to posts, don't be afraid to reply directly to the 
  186.     person who wrote the post rather than the list in general.  This
  187.     helps to reduce the volume of mail that has to be seen by everyone.

  189.   - Also, be assured that you are among friends here.  While constructive
  190.     criticism is always welcome, particularly where safety is involved,
  191.     please don't waste our time with inflammatory or null-content
  192.     postings.  Public flames of other members are especially frowned
  193.     upon.  If you have a problem with something or someone, it is 
  194.     recommended that you discuss it privately.

  196. The list administrators note on receiving E-mail:

  198.   - Being on these lists requires just one thing, a working e-mail
  199.     address.  When it quits working, and your e-mail starts bouncing
  200.     back, off the list you go.  And if e-mail doesn't work, chances are
  201.     you won't know you are off the list until you realize you haven't
  202.     seen anything for a while, since we can't send you e-mail saying
  203.     you aren't getting any e-mail.  There can be many reasons for
  204.     e-mail to quit working, or start doing things differently or
  205.     whatever, but these reasons DO NOT include something that happens
  206.     here at hoosier.  Things happen because something changed AT YOUR
  207.     SITE.

  209.   - We don't want to know what mailer you have, what delivery agents,
  210.     what your net connectivity might be, how you read e-mail and send
  211.     it, and so on.  If you have a problem that crops up with your
  212.     e-mail, talk to the folks who run e-mail at your site.  About the
  213.     only thing the british-cars administrator can do is take your name
  214.     off the list so you don't continue to have problems.  So when
  215.     you do have troubles or questions about your e-mail, start with
  216.     whatever local help you can, and work from there.  But the bottom
  217.     line is, if your e-mail breaks, don't call us about it because we
  218.     can't fix it for you.
