- Ed Kuspiel asks....

- >I am looking for manufactures of Jaguar sedan parts in the UK and the
- >USA. I am purchasing a 1961 Jaguar Mark IX and would like to establish
- >contacts for sources for parts for this car. This car is need of a
- >complete restoration.
-
- The English magazine Jaguar Quarterly is a very nice, high gloss rag
- with hundreds of ads for Jaguar spares. At $40/year, it's a bit
- pricey, but it's one of those cases where you get what you pay for.
- See also Thoroughbred and Classic Cars. A good domestic rag is
- Hemmings Motor News.
-
- If you can FTP, check out the british-cars parts places list available
- via anonymous FTP from hoosier.cs.utah.edu:/pub/sol/british_parts.ascii
- Most of it will not address Jaguars specifically, but there should be
- some applicable references. Lots of fun british-cars stuff is archived
- there, tech articles (*.tek), GIFs of various british-cars (including
- my Daimler!) and other good stuff.
-
- >If there are any other Jaguar sedan owners out there, I would like to
- >hear from you! I will be needing all the advice I can get.
- >I have completed the restoration of a '58 MGA coupe and have initiated
- >restoration on my A-H 100/4. I do all my own work including welding
- >and painting.
-
- If you are not already a member, you should consider joining the
- british-cars e-mail list. There's 10-15 Jaguar owners on the the
- british-cars list (and about 200 wanna-be's :-). Not quite enough to
- start a separate e-mail list yet, but the time will come. There
- usually isn't that much Jaguar content, but there's always lots of MG
- and A-H traffic. I've included the welcome to british-cars file below.
-
- Also, this list was posted to british-cars last March...

- Welcome to the british-cars e-mail network!
-
- What is the british cars e-mailing list?
-
- - The Scions of Lucas [SOL] is an international network of british
- cars enthusiasts dedicated to enjoying and maintaining the breed.
- Linked globally in real-time via the international computer-based
- electronic mail (e-mail) networks, we discuss various topics such
- as the daily dramas of owning the things, car maintenance and
- restoration and such. Together, we provide an informal support
- system which ranges from sharing technical information and locating
- spare parts or even whole cars to swapping tales of adventure and
- daring-do.
-
- - The scope of this group is simple, discussion is open to any
- subject involving british cars. Due to their large US import
- volume, much of the discussion tends to center around the
- Austin-Healey, MG and Triumph sport convertibles. Currently about
- 200 folks are on the list, not all of them owning British cars,
- some just wanting to get info before they make the plunge.
-
- - You will find that british-cars is different from most lists because:
- 1. Almost everyone is having or has had serious hands-on experience
- with Little British Cars. Referred to as LBC's.
- 2. The people who do not fall into category 1 above are genuinely
- interested in LBC's.
- 3. Like the news groups, not all you read here will be accurate.
- However *unlike* the news groups what you read here will be
- someone's very real attempt to help or inform.
-
- - Member statistics as of July 1991

-
- How busy is this list?
-
- - The list averages about 20 to 30 messages per day, with a monthly
- total of about 1-2 megabytes of stuff flowing forth. If the daily
- number of messages is too much, you can request to be put on the
- digest, which is simply all the day's mail concatenated into one
- long message and sent out late at night.
-
- How do I join?
-
- - Access to british-cars mailing list requires a computer or terminal,
- a modem, and access to one of the wide area computer networks such
- as Internet, Arpanet, WELL, UUCP, Compuserve etc. If you have
- received this message via e-mail, you already have access.
-
- - Send e-mail to british-cars-request@autox.team.net to subscribe (use
- hoosier.utah.edu if your mailer can't handle MX records). British
- cars e-mail is carried over the computer network known as Internet.
- Internet links many of the major universities, government labs and
- commercial computer/communication institutions internationally.
-
- -- When you join the british-cars list, you are encouraged to introduce
- yourself and tell us a bit more about yourself and your car. For
- example, tell us about your LBC (Little|Leaking|Large British
- Car|Convertible|Coupe) and any adventures that you've had finding,
- buying or owning it. Your LBC-related tales of treasures found,
- repairs, racing, rallying and any general misadventure are always
- welcome.
-
- - There is an archive of british-cars stuff available via anonymous
- FTP from hoosier.utah.edu in the pub/sol directory. Various GIFs,
- info files, lists of members and their cars and the beginnings of
- a collection of buyers guides to various LBC's can be found there.
-
- - Low-volume sublists exist for certain specialties and areas such as
- TR-8s, Land-Rovers, colorado.front.range and sf.bay.area.
-
- Are there any rules?
-
- - There are no formal rules. However, be aware that your postings to
- this list go out to a large number of professionals and upper-level
- students internationally whose time is very valuable. The quality
- of this network can only be maintained by the efforts and personal
- integrity of the individual members. Over the years, this has
- resulted in some rather high standards being set and you are
- strongly encouraged to THINK before you write. When you do post
- articles, please make an concerted effort to KEEP THE VOLUME LOW
- AND THE QUALITY HIGH.
-
- - When replying to posts, don't be afraid to reply directly to the
- person who wrote the post rather than the list in general. This
- helps to reduce the volume of mail that has to be seen by everyone.
-
- - Also, be assured that you are among friends here. While constructive
- criticism is always welcome, particularly where safety is involved,
- please don't waste our time with inflammatory or null-content
- postings. Public flames of other members are especially frowned
- upon. If you have a problem with something or someone, it is
- recommended that you discuss it privately.
-
- The list administrators note on receiving E-mail:
-
- - Being on these lists requires just one thing, a working e-mail
- address. When it quits working, and your e-mail starts bouncing
- back, off the list you go. And if e-mail doesn't work, chances are
- you won't know you are off the list until you realize you haven't
- seen anything for a while, since we can't send you e-mail saying
- you aren't getting any e-mail. There can be many reasons for
- e-mail to quit working, or start doing things differently or
- whatever, but these reasons DO NOT include something that happens
- here at hoosier. Things happen because something changed AT YOUR
- SITE.
-
- - We don't want to know what mailer you have, what delivery agents,
- what your net connectivity might be, how you read e-mail and send
- it, and so on. If you have a problem that crops up with your
- e-mail, talk to the folks who run e-mail at your site. About the
- only thing the british-cars administrator can do is take your name
- off the list so you don't continue to have problems. So when
- you do have troubles or questions about your e-mail, start with
- whatever local help you can, and work from there. But the bottom
- line is, if your e-mail breaks, don't call us about it because we
- can't fix it for you.
