- Quinn,
-
- I just absconded with a 10' length of Mogami Neglex cable that my
- father got from Old Colony Sound Labs and claims is quite good cable,
- especially for the money (a few bucks a pair). Neglex is 4 conductor
- plus shield, so one pair of conductors is your hot, one pair your
- ground (connected on both ends) and the shield remains connected at
- only one end. Apparently, it's a bit of a pain to work with, but I
- can't vouch for that just yet as I haven't made up a pair yet.
- I'll keep folk posted as to how the sound against my Monster IL400 and
- Audioquest Topaz if people are interested.
-
- One question I have for the board is considering grounding. Ideally,
- there would be only one ground that goes between two pieces of
- equipment, thus preventing ground loops and possible hum. However,
- this doesn't seem to be done, even in the best of cables, perhaps for
- a matter of convenience (since you would have to know which cables
- carried a ground and which didn't). The converse argument is, of
- course, that although multiple grounds create loops, they also lower
- the impedance to ground between the two pieces of gear.
-
- The question is simply, who's right?
