- All this discussion on HDCD raises a very important question to me.
- Why the CD encoding is linear and fixed point aritmetic? Maybe at
- time of definition of the standard a floating point encoding was not
- feasible (I guess that stil today transitions between orders of
- magnitude can cause distortion), but I guess that a logaritmic
-
- encoding should have been possible using an analog amp in front of
- the A/D converter and after the corresponding D/A converter when
- reproducing. I also guess that the difference in cost of a mass
- produced system so designed would have not been to different to the
- cost of current standard.
-
-
- So I believe that I'm missing something.
